The Canberra Cup

Perhaps the most popular of all Canberra races among avid Aussie punters online is the Canberra Cup taking place annually October. The race is officially a Group 1 Australian thoroughbred race and attracts thousands of Australian punters to Thoroughbred Park in Canberra, New South Wales. The race is currently run over a distance of 2000 metres but wasn’t always having been run over 1700 metres during 1953/54 and 1800 metres between 1955 and 1962. Between 1976 and 1995 the race was run over a distance of 2400 metres. It wasn’t until 1996 that the race was switched to its current distance of 2000 metres. There have been many popular, fan favourite competitors racing in the Canberra Cup each year with some of the more notable including Elegance in 2008, Testa Grande in 2007, Beat the Tide in 2005, So Assertive in 2004, and Mooring’s Melody in 2003. Race fans in Canberra get so excited by the Cup that they study the field with the same interest they would the Melbourne Cup field.

Conclusion:

With so many great races taking place in the Australian racing scene each year, the massive selection of betting options online can be quite overwhelming to many punters. With a number of regular race meetings taking place throughout the year and special events such as the ACT Cancer Council Canberra Cup, there is no reason why Aussies cant walk away winner after placing wagers on all these great races. Perhaps the most important event of all the Canberra races is the popular Canberra Cup taking place annually at the Thoroughbred Park track in October.
