Trainer Joe Cleary is confident that he has found a horse capable of successfully contesting the $250,0000 Black Opal Stakes at Canberra Racecourse on March 9, 2013.
Quietly Brilliant won his debut race stat in the $15,000 Win Television Plate at Canberra on November 29 by an incredible seven lengths.
Cleary admitted that he didn’t want to get too excited prior to his debut run, however, couldn’t help but think he had a real talent on his hands.
“We were trying to keep a lid on things because after that gallop on the course proper at Queanbeyan with the blinkers on I thought,`hooley dooley, he can gallop’,” Cleary said.
“But then on race day anything can happen.”
Now Quietly Brilliant will run in the $10,000 Gold Gift at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse tomorrow, where he will look to continue his unbeaten run.
The trainer has mapped the next few months out specifically with the 2014 Black Opal Stakes in mind.
“And that’s what we’re aiming at after Christmas,” Cleary said.
“He will go straight to the paddock after Saturday and come back for the Lightning Ridge on February 23 and the Black Opal.
Jockey Nick Souquet has retained the ride on Quietly Brilliant, despite pressure to choose a Sydney jockey.
“We’re going in the deep end with the boys from the bush but hopefully it can unfold,” he said.
Quietly Brilliant is trained at Queanbeyan Racecourse and will be having his first look at Rosehill tomorrow.
